Regional Land Use Planning Project

The Northern Tasmanian Regional Land Use Planning Project is about achieving a consistent, strategy-driven approach where clear state, regional and local priorities guide a common planning structure.

This planning project forms part of the Tasmanian Government project to fund the development of regionally consistent planning schemes for the Northern, North Western and Southern regions of Tasmania.

We invite participation in setting the vision, policy objectives and priorities.

The Northern region is made up of eight municipal areas: Break O’Day, Dorset, Flinders, George Town, Launceston City, Meander Valley, Northern Midlands and West Tamar. The region seeks to develop a streamlined, simplified regional planning system to promote certainty, consistency and simplicity in the development process.

The Regional Planning Project entails three phases:

The Regional Planning Project is coordinated by a Management Committee comprised of a representative from the Tasmanian Planning Commission, a Council General Manager representative from the regional urban councils, the smaller and rural councils and NTD representatives.

It is chaired by a representative of Mayors in the region. Technical planning issues are dealt with by a Technical Working Group which is made up of a planning representative from each of the eight Councils.
