About us
Northern Tasmania Development (NTD) was established in December 1992 to develop and sustainably grow the economy of the region.
NTD is owned by the 8 northern councils within the region: Break O’Day, Dorset, Flinders, George Town, Launceston City, Meander Valley, Northern Midlands and West Tamar.
Our role
Our role is to facilitate and coordinate the economic and social development of Northern Tasmania, which encompasses:
- taking forward the collective interests of councils in the region and influencing senior decision-makers within government and agencies
- sharing information and ensuring good communication flows within the region
- facilitating regional economic development and cooperation of mutual benefit to councils, communities and businesses in the region
- building effective partnerships with State and Commonwealth agencies which make decisions that effect our region
- developing resource sharing and other cooperative projects between councils.
We do this under the guiding principles of “Visit Live Invest”. That is, we deliver into the three service areas of:
- Tourism Development and Marketing (Visit)
- Community Development (Live)
- Economic Development (Invest)
NTD aims to:
- provide leadership for Northern Tasmania and be an advocate for the interests of Northern Tasmania
- provide a forum for the exchange of information and ideas
- promote Northern Tasmania as a favorable location for business, tourism, community and enterprise development
- facilitate the development of opportunities for Northern Tasmania
- encourage community involvement in the activities of NTD
- provide communication links with the Australian Government, the Tasmanian Government, the Local Government Association of Tasmania and other organisations
- provide a forum for Local Government matters, and undertake projects and resource sharing as appropriate.
We are working to enhance Northern Tasmania as a place to Visit. Live. Invest.
I love Launceston because it's a beautiful place to live, safe and family-friendly.
